Congratulations to our Commissioners!!!
We are proud to announce that Ms. Bennie McConnell has been reinstated as the resident Commissioner of the Housing Authority of the City of Prichard for another five years. She was sworn in last week during the regularly scheduled Annual Board of Commissioners meeting.
We are also proud to announce that Chairman Hunt and Vice-Chairman Woods will continue to serve in their elected roles on our Board. We are fortunate to have the leadership and vision to continue to fulfill the mission of providing affordable, safe, and sanitary housing in our community.
We ended the Annual Meeting with great food and fellowship with the Commissioners, CEO, Executive team, Lead management, and the Mayor.
Cheers to another year of positive change and Leadership!!!

Staff Development Day: "Succeeding Through Leading"
The Housing Authority of the City of Prichard recently hosted an inspiring Staff Development Day, "Succeeding Through
Leading," facilitated by dynamic speaker Leavie D. King, III, MS, from Culture CoachedUp (CUP) Development. Mr. King
emphasized the importance of effective communication, commitment, and trust to enhance workplace interactions and
customer care.
The key strategy discussed, Customer Care, highlighted that open communication is vital in creating a trusting and honest
environment. Attendees learned practical approaches for boosting customer confidence, handling conflicts with an open
mind, and pursuing win-win outcomes.
Participants appreciated the interactive nature of the session, noting how effectively the content connected to daily work
practices and team dynamics. The day concluded with staff recognizing the value of teamwork and understanding that
"working together works."

"HACP/GWMC YOUTH CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT"
Friday, Jan 3, 2025, the Housing Authority of the City of Prichard
and Groundwork Mobile County hosted an incredible Youth
Climate Change Summit at the William "Bill" Clark Center, where
41 young leaders participated.
HACP is deeply committed to fostering community engagement
and empowering youth voices. By co-hosting this summit with
GWMC, HACP affirmed its dedication to nurturing environmental
stewardship and civic responsibility among young residents. The
event provided a dynamic platform for youth to discuss specific
needs of the Prichard community.
"Stepping Into Health and Friendship: Seniors Walk Daily!"
Every weekday at 7:00 a.m., seniors gather at the William "Bill" Clark Family Life Center for their daily walking routine. Rain or shine, they enjoy friendly conversations and support each other in staying active and healthy. "Walking each morning keeps us healthy and connected," says one participant. "We look forward to seeing our friends and catching up!" This morning ritual strengthens both their physical health and friendships. All are welcome to join!

PRICHARD FORCE
BASKETBALL & CHEER TEAMS
A huge congratulations is in order!!!!! The Housing Authority of the
City of Prichard Youth traveled to Columbia, South Carolina, to the
SERC-NAHRO MLK Basketball and Cheer competition.
Both our basketball team (Prichard Force 15U division) and our
Cheer team 12 & under won the championship/competition and
brought the trophies back home to Prichard, Alabama.
A special shout out to HACP very own Recreation Coordinator/Coach
- Mr. Theris Howard for his hard work in training and continued
support to our youth. Much appreciation to our volunteer assistant
basketball coach, Mr. Lavon Williams.

The seeds that we sow in our youth will go further than the game.

Black History Month: "Reclaiming Our History"
"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced" Martin Luther King Jr.
On February 27, 2025, at the William Bill Clark Center, the Housing Authority of the City of Prichard held its Black History Program, "Reclaiming Our History." It was a beautiful evening of poetry, dance, and music. There were several speakers: Victor Scotty, Gary Grandison, and keynote speaker Leavie King of coached UP, reminding us all that there is great power in our names.
HOUSING
Congratulations to the Housing Staff, QC Compliance Manager and Maintenance Team on the Heritage Estates MOR Audit February 17 & 18th and on passing the NSPIRE inspection at Ridge Manor. Keep it up the GREAT work!!!
HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER(HCV)
The Resident Portal is open for Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) participants to complete re-certifications and changes. There is also a computer located in the lobby of the Housing Authority of the City of Prichard for any resident who does not have access to a computer at home to complete any necessary changes or to complete re-certification. The portal can also be used to email your specialists and if you need assistance, we are happy to help.
Spring Into Action Maintenance Checklist
- Check Window Screens: Inspect screens for tears or damage and repair or replace as needed.
- Clean HVAC Filters: Replace or clean your HVAC filters to improve air quality and efficiency.
- Test Smoke Detectors: Ensure smoke detectors are functioning correctly and replace batteries if necessary.
- Check for leaks: Inspect water heater, pipes, and appliances for leaks
